Ombre Nail Tutorial

The other day I was on youtube watching videos and tutorials and I came across this awesome nail tutorial!  It is originally by the youtube user JaaackJack and her channel is awesome!  I really like it.

Okay, lets get started!

You will need:

  • Clear bottom and top coat nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • Three colors of nail polish of your choice
  • Makeup sponges
  • Nail polish remover and q-tips

Start out with nice clean finger nails.

Apply one coat of the clear base coat nail polish to your nails.

(I used Revlon Multi Care Base+Top Coat which was on sale at Kroger the other day. 🙂 )

After the clear dries, apply your first coat of white nail polish.

You will most likely have to put two coats of white.

After the first coat dries, apply the second coat and allow that to dry.

Now time for the fun part!

Get your sponges out.  I bought these cheap Kroger brand wedges and they worked fine!

Get your colors of nail polish out and go ahead and unscrew all of the tops so you can use each one easier.

(I bought Revlon Fuchsia Fever, Posh Pink, and Angelic.  The Revlon nail polish was all on sale so that’s why I’m using it!)

Apply your polish to the sponge in stripes, darkest to lightest.  Then with your painted sponge you are going to press it onto your nail.

Use a clean part of the sponge or a new sponge for each nail, that way when you do the second coat you’ll get the same pattern.

After you apply the first sponge coat, allow to dry a little and then you can do the next coat!

(first coat)

(second coat)

For the second coat remember which sponge you used for which nail and apply more polish to the sponge and press on the nail once more!  You can do as many coats as you like.  I did two.

Apply a clear coat once you are finished with all the colors and voila!  You have lovely ombre nails to show off! 🙂

Oh yeah, and with your nail polish remover and a q-tip take the access polish off of your skin.  This will definitely get a little messy on your fingers!

Well I have quite a few posts planned and I am excited about posting them and also about spring and all the pretty flowers blooming, etc!  We went to the Creation Museum in Kentucky at the beginning of this month and I have pictures to share from that too!  I hope some of you, readers, enjoyed this post and are able to try this technique sometime.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and a blessed Easter Sunday!  “He is not here, for he has risen, as he said…”  Matthew 28:6

Much love and God bless,

Yay for April showers! 🙂  I wasn’t very excited about the rain because it was just starting to get sunny and a little warmer, but then I remembered that the rain will wash away the pollen, so I am happy it rained!

I am disappointed, however, to hear that the temperature is suppose to drop again.  I just don’t understand!

Well, have a wonderful day of April showers!

“Drip drip drop, little April showers, beating a tune as you fall on the ground.  Drip drip drop, little April showers, what can compare with your beautiful sound?”

Feeling Good: A few Tips for Using Essential Oils

So, today I have a little introductory to the usage and abilities of nature’s own Essential Oils.  I hope you learn something new and enjoy!

As you might know, essential oils are the essence and natural aroma of God’s beautiful creations!  Lavender, cilantro, lemon and orange!  The list goes on and on.

Let’s start with lavender.  Lavender is extremely calming and soothing and has wonderful healing properties.  You can apply a few drops of lavender on a scrape or burn and it will help with the pain.  I personally use lavender when I apply lotion to my arms and legs.  I use a non-scented lotion and then a few drops of this lovely oil and it smells SO good!  Also we learned at the class that to help cure an ear infection put 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of melaleuca (tea tree) on a cotton ball and put it in your infected ear.  Melaleuca is an anti-bacterial oil and lavender, as I’ve said, is very calming and healing as well.

Melaleuca (also known as tea tree) is one of my favorite oils to use!  I use to hate the way it smelled, but now is one of my favorite scents.  If you want to prevent illness/virus in your home you can put a few drops of tea tree in a little pot of water on the stove top and keep it on low (maybe use a simmer mat), or you can diffuse it through your home with a diffuser!  It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and will help get rid of warts and toe fungus and things like that!  Put a drop right on a troublesome wart or where ever you need it and it will, I guarantee, be gone in a short amount of time.  (Also coconut oil and lemon grass supposedly helps with warts.  Mix them together and put on trouble spot)

Peppermint is an amazing oil!  Not only does it smell fresh and wonderful, but it also gives you a shiver of energy down your spine and eases muscle aches, pains and strains.  Peppermint is one of the essential oils that will help your mind stay alert and ready for action, and helps some when you have a fever.  The most common things I use peppermint for, or that I’ve seen it used for, are headaches and muscle pain.  Take a few drops of this stimulating oil on your hands and rub it on your temples, across the head where it aches, and the back of the neck and ears and you will almost instantly be eased!  And apply a few drops on your shoulder, calves, or any aching muscle and it really relieves the pain!  Like Bio-freeze but natural and better! 🙂  Also if you rub a drop of peppermint and two drops of orange into the palms of your hands then inhale a few times it is very refreshing and also helps with headaches.

Lets see…citrus!  Yes!  Citrus oils are so uplifting!  Lemon, lime, orange, lemongrass, orange blossom…..soooo good!  Just carrying a little bottle of lemon with you and taking a big sniff of it throughout the day lifts the spirits very much!  Very aromatic and fresh as well.  You can apply it (and almost any other essential oil scent that you want to use) to the bottom of your feet, down your spine, on your neck and around the ears and over your heart for a fresh scent to last all day long.  Citrus oils are very nice for breakout prone skin or for brightening up the skin.  You can put lemon or orange oil on a cotton ball and wipe it on a big ugly pimple to reduce redness and help it go away, but don’t go outside too soon after because the acidity in the citrus oils just might bleach your skin!  Also drinking water with lemon or lime is very refreshing; but I prefer to use a fresh lemon for that use!

Wintergreen helps with arthritis.  Arthritis has actually been cured by using it which is incredible!  Lime and oregano help ease a bad cough.  Frankincense is an anti-cancer, helps with seizures, gives your mind alertness, and is a holy oil that was given to sweet baby Jesus!

Here are a few recipes and other things we learned.

Pinkeye Remedy

You can rub a little coconut oil and a drop of lavender around the eye (NOT in or on the eyelid) if you ever get pinkeye.

Bug Bites

doTERRA sells some essential oil blends that work well for bug bites.  I actually won a bottle of their blend called Purify (yay!) which can be used as a disinfectant and cleaning agent, for bug bites, washing the counter or even cleaning the toilet, and it also helps with sneezes and coughs, eliminating odors and purifying the air!  There is also a blend called Terrashield which specifically attends bug bites.  You can put some drops of that in a spray bottle with water to use as bug spray.

Hand Sanitizer

In a small bottle put one part aloe vera gel (most natural you can find), one part water, and a few drops of the doTERRA blend Onguard (or a drop of orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oil) and mix them all together and enjoy an all natural hand sanitizer!

One thing they said was that the essential oils are the “boss”, shall we say.  That means whatever your condition is, like the nutritional condition of your body and etc, the oils will benefit you more if you are in a better place.  Otherwise they will be so potent and overruling when you use them and they won’t really help as much, but don’t be discouraged!  Using them is still good for you and will make you want to get yourself into a better, happier and healthier state! 🙂

Refreshing Toner

In a small spray bottle put one part witch hazel, one part water, 5-10 drops of lavender (however many you want) and a couple drops of orange and or lemon.  Spray on face after cleansing or getting out of the shower.  SO nice!

Please take note that  I am no aromatherapist or essential oil expert, but I am quite fascinated by these wonderful oils and the amazing healing properties that they have.  I have also never used doTERRA products or oils before and am not being paid by them (or anyone!) to post this.  It is just a personal interest and it’s fresh on my mind since I attended the class!  I have also only used the oils topically and aromatically.  The only things I’ve consumed are lemon, peppermint and oregano.  You will want to research or look up other ways to safely use the oils.  There are lots of wonderful books out there that you can read and other ways as well to find what you’re looking for.  One book they had at the class was by doTERRA and it was titled “Modern Essentials” and was a great book about how to use all of the oils and what they all help with and do, etc!  Physical health, spiritual and emotional healing, anti-aging, etc etc etc!  It is truly amazing.

God really had, and has, everything planned out.  Just seeing all of these oils from all of the plants and herbs that He created and learning about how they can heal and comfort and relieve and do so many things is just flabbergasting (and THAT is a fun word to say)!  I am very excited to start reading more about plants and their oils and abilities and all other alternatives to over-the-counter medicines and prescriptions.  It is very nice to know that we have a Creator who put all of these plants and things on the earth for us to use to heal and protect and nourish ourselves.  He really loves us!

Leave a comment if you learned something new or have anything to say and please feel free to share anything you know about essential oils or any other natural recipes, remedies or alternatives!  Have a blessed Sunday, and may your week be peaceful, sunny and warm.

Much love,

P.S. Anything underlines is a link directing you to a different site.  In this post I put a link to the doTERRA website and a link to the “Modern Essentials” book.

April Musings

Hello blog!  Hows it been?  Well, it’s been almost one month since I’ve posted anything and I do apologize!

I have been busy helping my sister nanny two babies twice a week, and then there’s everything in between that keeps me busy and so I’ve just forgotten about my blog.  Please forgive me.

Well last night my friend invited me to an essential oils class hosted by the essential oils company doTERRA.  It was a really fun class and I love essential oils so it was fun going and learning about them a little more.  The “theme” of the class was replacing your medicine cabinet with natural remedies and alternatives instead of antibiotics and etc.  It was really cool!

Sadly, I am in a time crunch and won’t be able to share anything else until tomorrow afternoon!  So until then.

Much love and many blessings,

P.S. Pollen has come upon us…and boy have I been congested and sleepy!  Blah!
