Feeling Good: A few Tips for Using Essential Oils

IMG_0363

So, today I have a little introductory to the usage and abilities of nature’s own Essential Oils.  I hope you learn something new and enjoy!

As you might know, essential oils are the essence and natural aroma of God’s beautiful creations!  Lavender, cilantro, lemon and orange!  The list goes on and on.

Let’s start with lavender.  Lavender is extremely calming and soothing and has wonderful healing properties.  You can apply a few drops of lavender on a scrape or burn and it will help with the pain.  I personally use lavender when I apply lotion to my arms and legs.  I use a non-scented lotion and then a few drops of this lovely oil and it smells SO good!  Also we learned at the class that to help cure an ear infection put 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of melaleuca (tea tree) on a cotton ball and put it in your infected ear.  Melaleuca is an anti-bacterial oil and lavender, as I’ve said, is very calming and healing as well.

Melaleuca (also known as tea tree) is one of my favorite oils to use!  I use to hate the way it smelled, but now is one of my favorite scents.  If you want to prevent illness/virus in your home you can put a few drops of tea tree in a little pot of water on the stove top and keep it on low (maybe use a simmer mat), or you can diffuse it through your home with a diffuser!  It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and will help get rid of warts and toe fungus and things like that!  Put a drop right on a troublesome wart or where ever you need it and it will, I guarantee, be gone in a short amount of time.  (Also coconut oil and lemon grass supposedly helps with warts.  Mix them together and put on trouble spot)

Peppermint is an amazing oil!  Not only does it smell fresh and wonderful, but it also gives you a shiver of energy down your spine and eases muscle aches, pains and strains.  Peppermint is one of the essential oils that will help your mind stay alert and ready for action, and helps some when you have a fever.  The most common things I use peppermint for, or that I’ve seen it used for, are headaches and muscle pain.  Take a few drops of this stimulating oil on your hands and rub it on your temples, across the head where it aches, and the back of the neck and ears and you will almost instantly be eased!  And apply a few drops on your shoulder, calves, or any aching muscle and it really relieves the pain!  Like Bio-freeze but natural and better! 🙂  Also if you rub a drop of peppermint and two drops of orange into the palms of your hands then inhale a few times it is very refreshing and also helps with headaches.

Lets see…citrus!  Yes!  Citrus oils are so uplifting!  Lemon, lime, orange, lemongrass, orange blossom…..soooo good!  Just carrying a little bottle of lemon with you and taking a big sniff of it throughout the day lifts the spirits very much!  Very aromatic and fresh as well.  You can apply it (and almost any other essential oil scent that you want to use) to the bottom of your feet, down your spine, on your neck and around the ears and over your heart for a fresh scent to last all day long.  Citrus oils are very nice for breakout prone skin or for brightening up the skin.  You can put lemon or orange oil on a cotton ball and wipe it on a big ugly pimple to reduce redness and help it go away, but don’t go outside too soon after because the acidity in the citrus oils just might bleach your skin!  Also drinking water with lemon or lime is very refreshing; but I prefer to use a fresh lemon for that use!

Wintergreen helps with arthritis.  Arthritis has actually been cured by using it which is incredible!  Lime and oregano help ease a bad cough.  Frankincense is an anti-cancer, helps with seizures, gives your mind alertness, and is a holy oil that was given to sweet baby Jesus!

Here are a few recipes and other things we learned.

Pinkeye Remedy

You can rub a little coconut oil and a drop of lavender around the eye (NOT in or on the eyelid) if you ever get pinkeye.

Bug Bites

doTERRA sells some essential oil blends that work well for bug bites.  I actually won a bottle of their blend called Purify (yay!) which can be used as a disinfectant and cleaning agent, for bug bites, washing the counter or even cleaning the toilet, and it also helps with sneezes and coughs, eliminating odors and purifying the air!  There is also a blend called Terrashield which specifically attends bug bites.  You can put some drops of that in a spray bottle with water to use as bug spray.

Hand Sanitizer

In a small bottle put one part aloe vera gel (most natural you can find), one part water, and a few drops of the doTERRA blend Onguard (or a drop of orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oil) and mix them all together and enjoy an all natural hand sanitizer!

One thing they said was that the essential oils are the “boss”, shall we say.  That means whatever your condition is, like the nutritional condition of your body and etc, the oils will benefit you more if you are in a better place.  Otherwise they will be so potent and overruling when you use them and they won’t really help as much, but don’t be discouraged!  Using them is still good for you and will make you want to get yourself into a better, happier and healthier state! 🙂

Refreshing Toner

In a small spray bottle put one part witch hazel, one part water, 5-10 drops of lavender (however many you want) and a couple drops of orange and or lemon.  Spray on face after cleansing or getting out of the shower.  SO nice!

Please take note that  I am no aromatherapist or essential oil expert, but I am quite fascinated by these wonderful oils and the amazing healing properties that they have.  I have also never used doTERRA products or oils before and am not being paid by them (or anyone!) to post this.  It is just a personal interest and it’s fresh on my mind since I attended the class!  I have also only used the oils topically and aromatically.  The only things I’ve consumed are lemon, peppermint and oregano.  You will want to research or look up other ways to safely use the oils.  There are lots of wonderful books out there that you can read and other ways as well to find what you’re looking for.  One book they had at the class was by doTERRA and it was titled “Modern Essentials” and was a great book about how to use all of the oils and what they all help with and do, etc!  Physical health, spiritual and emotional healing, anti-aging, etc etc etc!  It is truly amazing.

God really had, and has, everything planned out.  Just seeing all of these oils from all of the plants and herbs that He created and learning about how they can heal and comfort and relieve and do so many things is just flabbergasting (and THAT is a fun word to say)!  I am very excited to start reading more about plants and their oils and abilities and all other alternatives to over-the-counter medicines and prescriptions.  It is very nice to know that we have a Creator who put all of these plants and things on the earth for us to use to heal and protect and nourish ourselves.  He really loves us!

Leave a comment if you learned something new or have anything to say and please feel free to share anything you know about essential oils or any other natural recipes, remedies or alternatives!  Have a blessed Sunday, and may your week be peaceful, sunny and warm.

Much love,

Jenny~

P.S. Anything underlines is a link directing you to a different site.  In this post I put a link to the doTERRA website and a link to the “Modern Essentials” book.

Awesome! I really like using that toner too. Especially spraying it on a cotton ball and then applying it to my face. Well, again, I am not an expert, but at the class they were saying to make sure that it is 100% pure and real essential oil. For example, if you buy a bottle of lavender the label should say: Lavender lavandula angustifolia 100% pure or real essential oil. And also it might say where the lavender originated (where it was from) and that should be France, Belgium. But to answer your question exactly, you can find a lot on Amazon and I have a few links to some companies that I can give to you! 🙂 Also, doTERRA sells it (of course)!
