Wisdom from Proverbs

Practical Warnings

  My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor,

have given your pledge for a stranger,

if you are snared in the words of your mouth,

caught in the words of your mouth,

then do this, my son, and save yourself,

for you have come into the hand of your neighbor:

go, hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor.

Give your eyes no sleep

and your eyelids no slumber;

save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,

like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Go to the ant, O sluggard;

consider her ways, and be wise.

Without having any chief,

officer, or ruler,

she prepares her bread in summer

and gathers her food in harvest.

How long will you lie there, O sluggard?

When will you arise from your sleep?

10  A little sleep, a little slumber,

a little folding of the hands to rest,

11  and poverty will come upon you like a robber,

and want like an armed man.

12  A worthless person, a wicked man,

goes about with crooked speech,

13  winks with his eyes, signals with his feet,

points with his finger,

14  with perverted heart devises evil,

continually sowing discord;

15  therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly;

in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

16  There are six things that the Lord hates,

seven that are an abomination to him:

17  haughty eyes, a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

18  a heart that devises wicked plans,

feet that make haste to run to evil,

19  a false witness who breathes out lies,

and one who sows discord among brothers.

Warnings Against Adultery

20  My son, keep your father’s commandment,

and forsake not your mother’s teaching.

21  Bind them on your heart always;

tie them around your neck.

22  When you walk, they will lead you;

when you lie down, they will watch over you;

and when you awake, they will talk with you.

23  For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light,

and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,

24  to preserve you from the evil woman,

from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

25  Do not desire her beauty in your heart,

and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

26  for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread,

but a married woman hunts down a precious life.

27  Can a man carry fire next to his chest

and his clothes not be burned?

28  Or can one walk on hot coals

and his feet not be scorched?

29  So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife;

none who touches her will go unpunished.

30  People do not despise a thief if he steals

to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry,

31  but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold;

he will give all the goods of his house.

32  He who commits adultery lacks sense;

he who does it destroys himself.

33  He will get wounds and dishonor,

and his disgrace will not be wiped away.

34  For jealousy makes a man furious,

and he will not spare when he takes revenge.

35  He will accept no compensation;

he will refuse though you multiply gifts.

Proverbs 6

Earlier today I went outside and sat on the hammock and enjoyed some perfect fall weather while reading my bible.  Some verses in Proverbs 6 stood out to me, and as you can see above I decided to share the whole chapter.  Verses 8-11 stood out to me the most.  It was almost an answer to the exact thing I was thinking before I read it!  A lot lately, much more then I;ve needed to be, I have been thinking.  That’s it!  Just thinking about everything: everything I want to do, everything I want to learn, everyone I want to lend a hand to, everything I haven’t done or didn’t do, etc etc etc!  And all this time; this time that I have to learn about God and about myself and really do anything because of the free time I have, I have been pining away at all of these thoughts and, what I feel, wasting my each day by being idle and completely stuck in thoughts and not doing anything at all!  Just thinking about everything.

So, that’s kind of where I am right now; stuck in my head trying to get out!  Even though I can choose to get out of my head I seem to easily get discouraged and almost depressed about all of these thoughts that I have made so important and I have COMPLETELY forgotten about Jesus Christ in my life!  My Heavenly Father is sitting here, every day, right beside me, and I have been thoroughly ignoring Him.  Totally, utterly, completely.  And I wonder why I’m so out of it?!  The thing that should be my focal point every moment of the day and my every breath in each moment has been pushed aside!  I have neglected the one thing that I truly live by, so no wonder I’ve felt kind of dead.  huh.

Anyway, I know this seems a tiny bit depressing or “dramatic”, but this truly is how I have felt lately and the reason I have been completely uninspired in every aspect of my life!  Seriously every day I am uninspired, unmotivated, bogged down and tired feeling, and there are so many tings going through my head and at the same time I feel completely foggy headed like I’m not even living in the moment of my life!  I’m just an innocent bystander of my own life…is that possible?  Well, it’s how I feel.  So, not that I need an explanation, but that hopefully will explain my inactivity on my blog which I always THINK will be wonderful to post and share and grow and then I sit down to do it and I’m overwhelmed, and honestly I don’t know why?!  I just get this all or nothing about things and then make myself overwhelmed and stressed out!  It’s silly really.  SO silly.  I could go on and on about how I’m feeling right now or what’s has been going on and all the thoughts I’ve had lately, but 1) I don’t want to bore you and  2) I don’t think I’d make much sense…so I will end here!

“Dear God, I need You.  Please, Father, I truly truly need You!  Help me, Lord, find clarity in my mind, peace in my mind and Your presence in my life!  Father, I wish to give my life to You and to live fully for You and share Your love with the people I meet in this world.  Help me, God, find You in every moment, each day; in my siblings laughs and learning, my friends good news and the voices of my beloved family in Korea; whatever You bring into my life or into my day, Father, allow me to see Your goodness and Your love in it and help me find Your way for my life.  Thank you, Father, for everything.  Thank you for Your love and your provision and protection and your many blessings.  Allow me to learn to count my blessings and think positively, to live selflessly and to lift others up.  I love you, Lord.  In Jesus’ glorious and powerful name I pray, Amen.”

p.s. You know the calendar I made?  Well, this is the second month now that the verse I wrote on my calendar was the same verse that the new month of Jesus Calling started with!  (When you start a new month in the Jesus Calling daily devotional there is a verse, and the verse for October and November was the same one I wrote on my calendar!)  Just thought that was cool.

    So great that you are realizing this now. Keep Gods Word in your heart, ( memorize it!), I recommend a system called, “Topical Memory System.” It is put out by the Navigators. I learned about it years ago from Uncle Bob. Try it. I love you and the fact that you shared your heart. I am praying….
